Story behind the song
Rosalinde is in costume as a Hungarian contess, attending a Ball to spy on her philandering husband. SHe sings this aria, based on the rhythms of the Hungarian 'chair dance', and convinces everyone of her disguise. By the end everyone is drinking champagne and toasting this mysterious woman!
