DARRYL TOOKES BAND: Journey To The Hieros Gamos--- Darryl Tookes has come full circle. In the fall of 2005 he was visited by a messenger with whom he discovered new truth. An epiphany of body and soul, mind and spirit. Affirmation from the universal unconscious declaring the vision divine. Spiritual and sensual, a new archetype. The Sacred Marriage.-- Hieros Gamos marks the beginning of Tookes collaboration with guitarist Rolando Grooscors, drummer Rodolfo Zuniga, and bassist Brian MacDougal. Longineu Parsons, Johnny James and Ron Fattorusso added horns. Dmitri Pogorelov, Laszlo Pap, Joy Fellows and Ian Macksin played Joseph Jouberts arrangements for string quartet. Recorded live at Red Traxx by Felipe Tichauer. Mixed by Eric Schilling. Mastered by Bob Katz.-- A prolific sideman, journeyman Tookes has worked with a diverse spectrum of recording and performing artists while exploring multiple genres and idioms. From early mentors like Maurice White and Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire, Todd Rundgren to modern icons Stevie Wonder and James Taylor, Elton John and Donald Fagen. A partial list of Darryls professional experiences includes: Dave Grusin, Quincy Jones, George Benson, Sting, Chris Botti, Dave Valentin, Gerry Mulligan, Bobby McFerrin, Patricia Kaas, Carmen McRae, Leonard Bernstein, Patti Austin, Roberta Flack, Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Buster Williams, Luther Vandross, Laurie Anderson, Chris McNulty, Chuck Loeb, Howard Levy, Joe Beck, Juan Gabriel, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Korn, Blondie, Diana Ross, Patti Labelle and Chic. Lyrics
No cover, no minimum As he plays on his lonely guitar And he dreams to himself My day will come I’m gonna be a star My day will come I’m gonna be a star No lover lying next to him As he plays all alone in his room And he dreams to himself My day will come I’m gonna have someone My day will come I’m gonna have someone No more the laughing stock The laughing stock no more I’ll be the hero of the moment And the Champion of Hearts She’ll be my Lady Luck My Lady Luck for sure She'll bring me happiness and understanding Never will we part Never, never will we part Forever, call him the Champion of Hearts More coffee black Another cigarette As he practises day after day And he dreams to himself My day will come I’m gonna be someone My day will come I’m gonna be someone Straight Absolut in an empty glass As he watches the hours go by And he dreams to himself My day will come I’m gonna be the man My day will come I’m gonna be the man I’m gonna sing my song I’ll sing my song of love I’ll be the kid who plays like Pat Metheny The god of my guitar She’ll have the magic touch The magic touch of love She’ll be like Tyra Banks or Audrey Hepburn Never will we part Never, never will we part Forever, call him the Champion of Hearts We’ll dance a tango, dance a waltz I’ll serenade her, and we’ll take off Bop bop ... Call him the Champion, the Champion of Hearts Enter the violins and mandolins, English horn and harp Call her the Guiding Light, The Guiding Light of Love And when his music plays they’re swept away One life, one love, one heart Never, never will they part Forever, call him the Champion of Hearts Call him the Champion of Hearts
