Desperation David Odom Copyright © 2003 W. David Odom She stares down the street in the blinding rain Her face masked with fear her eyes filled with pain She smokes her last cigarette and says aint it a shame Another day gone nothing has changed She says I made my choice and I can’t even hear my own voice Speaking inside of me He hangs out all day at the liquor store how he got there he doesn’t care anymore he has a picture of a child and a one dollar bill another day gone and he can’t buy a meal He says I made my choice and I can’t even hear my own voice speaking inside of me. We stand in judgement of our fellow man We force them to see things they don’t understand Our compassion is self serving our guilt laid to rest our humanity is bought but our souls failed the test I made my choice and I can’t even hear my own voice Speaking inside of me Anymore
