The Dave Keat Project is Dave Keat (guitar and vocals) and Beat Neurohr (flute). The DKP's music is hand made: a melding of wood and steel and two musical imaginations. DKP's sound takes its cues from folk, jazz, blues and rock, whereby these elements are seen to meld into something new. It is a unique sound where the marriage of guitar and flute creates music that is truly out of the ordinary. A quality not readily defined. It is this "something special", coupled with superb musicianship that makes DKP exceptional. The DKP repertoire consists of original material written by Dave as well as the classic tunes of artists like Eric Clapton, George Harrison, John Martyn, Cat Stevens, Steven Stills and James Taylor (see repertoire). DKP's music has a universal appeal and their concerts are events that reach out to the audience encouraging participation and above all communication.

Story behind the song
This was one that I wrote in the wee hours of the morning with lots of red wine and cigarettes helping the process along. I was very into Paul Simon at the time and some of the jazzier chords he was using and that influenced the result of my efforts.
Lyrics
Melancholy Melody The sun has closed its eyes, my friends are all in bed, I’ve got this melody, running through my head, it’s problematic poetry, finding words that rhyme, a sweet melodic madness as my body says it’s time to sleep, so deep, sleep. I’ll smoke another cigarette, caress my tongue with wine, my thoughts like endless armies, marching through my mind, a soldier stops in solemn stance, a clock begins to chime, he starts to march off in the night, salutes, I see his face, it’s mine, just like mine. I see Columbus sailing forth to seek a golden land, of trees and milk and honey, I reach out with my hand, but as I grasp the dream dissolves to shades of velvet grey, with misty eyes I raise my head in greeting for the day to come, hello sun, morning’s come. The sun has closed its eyes, my friends are all in bed, I’ve got this melody, running through my head, it’s problematic poetry, finding words that rhyme, a sweet melodic madness as my body says it’s time to sleep, so deep, sleep.
