A song I started writing back in 2001 for my then girlfriend and finished in 2006 for my now wife. The casual listener might not understand the lyrics but my wife does and that's all that counts, right?
Just me, a synth and a computer...
Story behind the song
Begun sometime in 2001 or so and finished June 10, 2006, this song is basically an apology for having my head in the clouds 95% of the time. The casual listener won't get a lot of the lyrics but my wife does and that's all that counts, right? The "cry so sweet" is the daughter we're expecting (our first child) in October, 2006.
Lyrics
Awoke
By the stark cold of this winter morning
To find I'm far away from home
Have you heard me say, have you heard me say
I'll swing back around
Let me think this out
And I'll come around
This is what I wanted
Think
Back to a day, a rainy summer morning
Everything was green
Can you hear my voice, can you hear my voice
More than speaking
Can you feel my words
soft on your cheek
This is what I wanted
This is how I dreamed it
I will come back down
Sooner or later
I'll get my feet back on the ground
Not a single thing
Could make me a happier man
Than to find you waiting for me
And now
Looking forward to some bright autumn morning
To hear a cry so sweet
Can you hear my heart, can you hear my heart
Beat inside you
Can you feel my dream
Grow in your womb
This is what I wanted
This is how I dreamed it
I will come back down
Sooner or later
I'll get my feet back on the ground
Not a single thing
Could make me a happier man
Than to find you waiting for me
Released
By the soft warmth of this late spring morning
To find I'm not so far from home
