I got a Roy Rogers guitar with song book for Christmas in 1958. I learned a little and put it aside. In '63 a kid brought his electric guitar to school and played "Pipeline" at our sock hop. It looked easy, so I started a garage band. Eventually, I needed money for gas and dates, so I got a real job. We disbanded in '66, but best friend, Freddie, and I kept jamming over the years. We recently worked on a song he wrote and it inspired me to write my own music. Please listen and post a message.

Story behind the song
Grandpa Peck had a huge rocking chair, it was huge to a 6 year old. He rocked on the front porch Spring, Summer and Fall (Winter's in upstate NY prohibited Winter rocking) Big entertainment was watching thunderstorms. Front porch rocking is a lost art today. Just to keep it all in the family, I play the banjo inherited from my Grandfather Mendoza.
Lyrics
Grandpa’s Rocking Chair * (1) I can recall when I was a lad The old rocking chair that my Grandpa had He’d sit on his front porch and gently rock Looking out for his neighbors up and down the block (Chorus) That old rocking chair was made of hard wood The seat was soft leather and I understood In Grandpa’s home he was the king And his old rocking chair was not my plaything (Chorus) (2) Sitting up on my Grandpa’s knee Was the very best place that you could be He’d smoke his cigar and blow a smoke ring Then tell me to catch it and tie it to a string (Chorus) 3) When Grandpa went out I’d sit in his chair And keep time rocking without a care Now the years have flown by and Grandpa’s gone Sitting in his old chair the day he passed on (Chorus) Words and Music © 2006 A.P.
