Lyrics
I wish you could've seen him then we were so proud, and couldn't wait to begin just the three of us there in that hospital room and I felt like I had just hung the moon and then it wasn't very long until he started to smile and I saw someone there I hadn't seen in a long while then one day he stood up in his playpen I wish you could've seen him then It seemed like he just started crawling one day and mama had to put all her "pretties" away then he was walking and talking and going to school bringing home girls and trying to act so cool then it was off to college for a couple of years and I remember thinking as the big day nears just how much I would have given if you could've seen him then I wish you could've seen him, you'd have been proud and sometimes I catch myself talking out loud 'cause I just want you to know how good its all been but I wish I could see you again He's all grown up now and our job is done got a house of his own and he just gave us a grandson they all come by on Sunday afternoons to have dinner with the folks, catch up on the news and fall asleep on the couch with the ball game on laugh at the kids and the dogs on the lawn and sometimes they stare at your picture on the wall like they want to remember, but they just can't recall and I can't help thinking when they're gone again Oh, I wish you could've seen him then (chorus)
