The name Open Sky originated as a pseudonym for Steve Kim and his compositions, collaboration and productions. Between 2006-2007, Steve Kim had written the songs “Give my Heart” and “Breathe in me” under the name of Open Sky which garnered international success being sung in churches from China, Brazil, Nigeria to the U.K. and United States. Then in 2008 Steve felt the burden to reach out to the back-slidden and lost by penning “The Dream is over” under the name Open which quickly became the #1 requested song of all time on one of internet’s leading alternative rock stations and the legendary trilogy "Lost and Found" based on the parable of the prodigal son. . After a short hiatus, Steve was deeply moved to record and chronicle what God was doing musically in the local church. As a member of the worship band at Calvary Chapel Antelope Valley, Steve was amazed at the wealth of songs and talent God had put together in such a short time. Most importantly, everyone had a will to forsake their egos and pulled together to record a collection of fiery passionate “songs from the heart” that aimed to connect a congregation comprised of different age groups, races and lifestyles to the immutable timeless Creator of all. That was no easy task! The result is "Open Sky." "Open Sky" is the name of this collection of original worship songs written and performed by members of the Calvary Chapel Antelope Valley worship group recorded between 2009-2010. The vocalists and musicians that appear on the CD are Julian Martinez, Trish Timms, Mario Gonzalez, Mario Gonzalez Jr., Mike Morris, Kellie Switalski, Kelly Patrizio, Duane Clark and Steve Kim. The current line up includes Julian Martinez, Mario Gonzalez Jr, Justine Gonzalez, Kelly Switalski, Mike Morris, Kelly Patrizio, Dave and Heather Cristalinas, Lonny Snodgrass and Steve Kim.

Story behind the song
This song is based on Nehemiah 8:1-12, which recounts the story of Ezra the priest, who blesses the Lord and then reads the Law of Moses as the people lift up their hands and worship the Lord. As the people listen with understanding, they began to weep as they realize their sin. Ezra tells the people, "do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength" as this day is holy to our Lord.
Lyrics
Thank You (for the joy that we sing) Based on Nehemiah 8:1-12 Written by Steve Kim 2006 As your word is read out loud We lift our hands in praise We bless your name. Lord, open our ears to hear And our eyes to see the truth When we fall short. Though our sins may bring us sorrow It’s your kindness that draws us near Chorus: We will thank you for the joy that you bring For the joy that we sing. Praise your name over all the earth! Sing out! Thank you for the joy that you bring For the joy that we sing. Praise your name over all the earth! Today we celebrate The meaning of your word. That brings us life. A season for everything… A time to mourn and weep… A time to praise… As we sow in tears we wonder How long till we reap in joy? Repeat chorus Guitar solo Vocals and drums only: Sing out! Thank you for the joy that you bring, for the joy that you bring. Praise your name over all the earth!
