Story behind the song
I saw so many of my friends fall into a state of lonely depression and I couldn't stand to watch them hurt so much. It hurt me that they didn't feel like anyone could ever understand them. The song was written for them, as a rare bit of encouragement and optimism from me, a way of telling them that I'm there whenever they need me.
Lyrics
Welcome to the world were the words they spat at you
When they saw you falling through the cracks
They stuck you up on the cobweb of their lies
And expected you to fall apart that night.
I see you breaking
Trying to go on faking
Well, if it's any comfort to you
I've felt the way you do.
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone.
See the familiar faces walking right by you
Prying their eyes away, pretending they don't know you
It's okay if it hurts you, it hurt me too
You don't need them to pull yourself through.
I see you breaking
Trying to go on faking
It's okay to be human
I've felt the same
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone.
It's okay to be afraid
When the walls around you break
I've felt the same.
It's okay to be falling
It's okay to be human
I've felt that way.
I've felt the way you do tonight
And I know you're tired of the fight
Well, don't be afraid
I'm here with you
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone.
