Lyrics
Candelabra/As It Were A soft and pale light filters through the screen door Imparting life to the night and all its young I stir to meet it mindful of the moment The taste of whiskey—distant on my tongue Anticipation will certainly leave me half-blind again CHORUS Can’t be a better man Can’t be a better man In spite of who I am (Because of who I am) (Bound by who I am) A lost and warm wind staggers through the window Upsetting the peace of the pastures in my mind I roll the blinds and tap my fingers on the glass frame The scent of heartbreak wells up unrefined Anticipation will certainly leave me half-blind again An alluring refrain beckons from the bedroom A pleasant timbre and a hint of tragedy I turn away from the light of the candelabra The wicks receding like an agéd memory Anticipation has certainly left me half-blind again BACKING Steeper and steeper, the flame will reach deeper Leaving a void where the light once burned bright Higher and higher, consumed by desire Saying goodbye to that gentle goodnight music: Jay Youngless/Jay Youngless, Shane Post lyrics: Jay Youngless ©2005 Oldmore Music/ASCAP All rights reserved.
