Story behind the song
A composition reminding us of the true meanings behind Communion.
Lyrics
Be still-- and let your heart recall
the subtle meanings of this all,
We pass the wafer, take the cup,
For Jesus calls us now to sup,
He calls us now with this decree:
"Do this, in remembrance of Me,"
We break the bread and share the wine,
We come to Him, we come and dine,
Look in-- and let your mind reflect
this sacrifice to God's elect,
His broken corpse, the blood that flowed,
A willing gift His love bestowed,
Both host and victim of this meal:
"Do this, in remembrance of Me,"
Like grafted branches to the vine,
We cling to Him, we come and dine,
Blood of the lambs spread on the doors,
So, plagues of death would "pass over",
Lord Jesus, to us now impart
blood of the "Lamb" laid o'er our hearts,
Pause now-- and let your soul embrace
this simple meal prepared in haste,
A covenant that will never cease,
The promise of a wedding feast,
We heed His words explicitly:
"Do this, in remembrance of Me,"
From now until the end of time,
We'll keep to Him, we'll come and dine,
