Lyrics
RESURRECTION
I was skipping stones at the swimming hole when I heard the wind call my name,
Just then a shell came whistling in,I hit the ground, my dream exploded,
I was having deep visions of glory and violent rampages,
I was young then and my boundless virtue held no premonition of death.
Fastening bayonets I climb out and face a hail of steel and sorrow,
They opened up their machine guns on us, sixteen men fell dead on the ground,
Whistles blowing, their faces glowing, I fired my guns ‘till their lights went out,
Angels were flying on wires heralding the trumpets of Jehricoh.
Something hit me and I fell on the ground, but my soul never touched the ground,
We all stood about after the battle sharing cigarettes ‘round the fires,
They all saw the light, I saw it too, but I stayed behind and watched them fly,
I used to walk in sorrow, but a great wind carried me across the sky.
There were fabulous presentations of honour, medals shone in the sun,
The pipers were stepping high, piping anthems and singing hymns to the Lord,
The faithful lined the streets cheering generals who sent their sons to slaughter,
Sixteen wagons parade for the dragon’s lust, victorious sacred hearts,
My sweet temptation,
My resurrection.
