Lyrics
Hills of west Montana, fading into flatlands, Headed south by southeast down the road. All my grandma’s furniture, loaded in the trailer, With all the family history I know. Driving through to Yellowstone, didn’t see Old Faithful But sure saw all the service stations closed. Saw the place where Custer fought, walked across the hill and then Got back in the car and headed home. In Point of Rock, Wyoming, Lonely trains just passed us through the night Through the small town’s darkness, sparks were in the rearview, We drove into a ditch beside the road. Couldn’t see no headlights, couldn’t find a welder, Money running short and so was time. So long ago I can’t remember when the tire blew again, We were stranded on the highway way out west. Camped beside a river flowing south through Colorado, Some river that I’ve never seen again. Kansas sky can hold a million stars - I saw them in a field, Walking on the prairie ‘neath the moon. Wind came blowing through the door, sleeping in the car that night, I didn’t shut my eyes till daylight came and went. And into Oklahoma, Heading south to Texas through the night.
