Lyrics
I left old Denton, warned and young but mostly able, Didn’t think I’d be back again so soon. And my gray-haired mother stood and waved in my back window, Underneath the northern Texas moon. And I’ve seen a lot that I haven’t forgot, But I might get back in her mind, Or wave on my way out of mine. Well I drove to Midland, wrecked my car and had to live there, Didn’t know that I could lose so quick. And I took to drinking, spent my nights out in the street there, Living large but couldn’t make it stick. I’m heading back now, dreams are gone and near forgotten, My one chance at living was a joke And my hopes are drowning, in a sea that I can’t sail, Sinking down, and I’m about to choke.
