worship praise christiansongwriter gospelgrass gary mott
I enjoy music from many different styles, and that is reflected in my song writing. I write gospel songs in Southern gospel, bluegrass, jazz, pop, blues, etc. styles. Although I have lead worship and played keys and sang at our church, I'm not seeking a career as a performing artist. I've been writing and playing Christian music for over 40 years. I only seek to have the Lord glorified in my music. I recorded these demo songs on my home studio to have something to present to publishers/gospel music artists and to worship leaders who would wish to use my songs in their praise and worship services.

Story behind the song
When we moved to NC from northern Calif, it was the first time I had seen lightning bugs in about 30 years, so I guess I spent a lot of time thinking about how cool they are to watch, and how God blesses us even with the little things.
Lyrics
Lightning Bug Song - Gary Mott copyright 2006 I was sittin’ on my porch one night when my eyes beheld a wonderful sight, like little Coleman lanterns up in the sky. The lightning bugs were in the air, they were here, there, and everywhere; so I kicked back, relaxed and watched ‘em fly. As I wondered how such a little thing could bring a smile and make me sing, I finally came up with a thought or two. Even though they’re pretty small, the lightning bug brings joy to all because they’re doing just what God told them to do. Chorus I’m gonna be a lightning bug for Jesus, do everything that pleases Him, I’m gonna hold my light up and let it shine, shine, shine. I’ll tell everybody my story, I’ll give God all the glory, Be a lightning bug for Jesus all the time. Well I think about that summer night when I beheld that beautiful sight, and I won’t forget the lesson I learned that time. You see it don’t matter if you’re small cause God’s the One who made us all, so don’t be afraid to let your little light shine. You say, “I’m a Christian, but I can’t do much”, just take a lesson from the lightning bug, even though it’s small it does a lot of good. So remember this lesson that you’ve learned, you don’t need to save the whole wide world, just let your little light shine in your own neighborhood. (to chorus)
