Story behind the song
This song isn’t any deeper than it seems; it’s just a cry to appreciate all the little things. It’s amazing how we can define normal. The smallest thing, let alone man-made things, are unbelievably, wonderfully unlikely. A penny has had to have men to make it, who work all day making it. The metal has been in the Earth for millenia, probably, and yet it’s been dug out, melted down, recast using tools that had to be made themselves - it’s an incredible thing, and yet we don’t generally give them a second thought. It’s because if we truly appreciated everything all the time, our minds would be blown. But this is just a few minutes to give it up for all these miraculous things. By the way, I don’t buy the God thing. To me, it seems to be insulting all these fantastic, magical developments to crassly say that BECAUSE they’re so complex, they MUST have been created by a ‘higher being’. Anyway.
