Story behind the song
I was listening to my friend Teri Simmons CD, "Is There Anyone Like Jesus?" and I heard this title track. It was so moving and the first thing I thought of was "this sounds like something that would depict Jesus in the Gethsemane". I called her and said could I write some words to this tune. She gave me the okay. Hence, Gethsemane. I came str8 out of the gospels to get the words.
Lyrics
Gethsemane (Teri Simmons/John Redmon) adapted from the Teri Simmons’ “Is There Anyone Like Jesus?” © 1994 Piano Meditations – Is There Anyone Like Jesus Let this cup pass from me. Let me give it back to Thee. Take it away from me. (2x) (Father) It is Your strength that I seek. The Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak… Is weak…is weak…so weak. My soul laments, yet my heart’s convinced That it’s not my will, but it’s Yours that must be done. Although I’m in agony, I’ll pray more earnestly. Give the cup to me. I’ll drink it willingly. So to the cross I go Father Your love to show. Make Your presence known. I now go willingly. I now go willingly. ©1999 Gethsemane. Teri’s Music Source (ASCAP), John P.
