Story behind the song
Merle and Pixie travel all across our great land, the king and queen of tin pan alley, at least Nashville style. One day Merle and Pixie were giving a concert in our Nation's capital when up came a man, who was a well dressed politician that was mystified by Merle's populist political power with his audience and Willie Nelson appearance, and wondered who had more political clout with the people, himself, the well dressed political type, or the more nonconformist musical character that he confronted on the stage at the Washington D.C. concert. Merle and Pixie didn't know what to say to him. Then our political friend just faded away into the crowd.
Lyrics
Well gather around all you boys and girls I'll sing you a story about a Man named Merle Who had a guitar and he came from Dixie Who had a girlfriend and her name was Pixie Pixie played lead guitar for the band... Come on now Pixie play... Well we've come all these miles Now we're going to say no? Come on now folks, it's time for a show We'll play our song all over the land We'll play our song in a rock and roll band Well Merle and Pixie were doing a show In our Nation's capital not long ago When all of a sudden up came a man Who asked Merle a most unusual question The man said, "You know, I've seen you on TV, but you don't look like me." Well Merle didn't know what to say, so the man just faded away... Ha Ha Ha, Merle and Pixie!
