We posit a thesis in answer to the question, initially posed by Country Joe McDonald: 'And it's one, two, three, what are we fightin' for?'

liberal ranting and raving, but sensitive explorations of the current American malaise
Good Without One was a drummerless and mercifully leaderless rock trio performing off the track and often humorous, often political originals and originally arranged covers. The players are George Potor, guitar and vocals, Joe DeCristopher, guitar and vocals, and Rick Totten, bass and vocals. These folks have played together in different contexts for decades, but only as this particular trio from 2003 - 2008. While the level of musicianship is high, their disdain for the trappings of rock stardom is legendary. Two of the members even remained seated throughout performances, despite no obvious physical impairments. Their drummerless approach was a novel but occasionally successful scam to get electric instruments into acoustic venues.

Story behind the song
Hostages! Countries whose names are 4 letter words! Let''s kick butt for Team America! Hear GWO engage the apologists' rant that Big Oil benefits from militarism.
Lyrics
VERSE 1: Business as usual, time to invade. Show that you, too, can be loyal. Cut off their food, let’s have a parade; We’re makin’ it safe for Gulf Oil, Yeah, we’re makin’ it safe for Gulf Oil. CHORUS: Give planes and guns, get men of note. Get women friends for votes and dope. VERSE 2: Irani, Iraqi, it’s all the same; A place to sell Pepsi and tanks. We’re comin’ in neutral to open the Strait And we’re not even askin’ fer thanks, No, we’re not even askin’ fer thanks. CHORUS VERSE 2: Hiding our hostages for holding their past; We’ve shown how to care for their poor. With enemies missin’, the rest ‘ll be switchin’ It was Eighty then but it seemed like Eighty-Four Only Eighty then but it seemed like Eighty-Four We’re makin’ it safe for We’re makin’ it safe for We’re makin’ it safe for We’re makin’ it safe for Gulf Oil
