Story behind the song
I've been single for five long years, believe it or not, and this is a song about the time I got so desperate for a hug, or at least a fuck, that I went up to Manchester for the Mardi Gras.
Lyrics
Went to Manchester For the Mardi Gras. Euston Station like a Camp for deportation of gay Men. Crammed into the carriages (or Are they really gas chambers?). Piccadilly Station like a Camp for concentration of gay Men. Then there's this Big wire fence all a- Round the gay village and If I want to go inside I Got to pay them fifteen quid. So I Did - Well I had come Two hundred miles for a shag. Gave Me a band of gold to Wear around my wrist. Said I must not take it off to Shower or shag or sleep. Well I would've preferred a pink Triangle myself. In Side the gay village every- Body's got shaved heads and they Must be on the Atkins diet 'cause No-one's got body fat. Maybe you're Thinking, Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm Paranoid or something and I should stop the smoking or Take what they're all taking. 'Cause I'm the only one here Who isn't smiling. I'm the only one here Who can't stop asking is this Europride? Or is this Genocide? Is this Europride? Or is this Genocide? Is this Europride? Or is this Genocie? Is this Europride? Or is this Genocide?
