Story behind the song
"We just can't seem to get out of the red without the blues." I think that just about wraps it up. Much of this song was written one night while I was working at a Mexican Restaurant/Cantina.
Lyrics
Take A Number, Please ©Shannon Morris 1998 I’ve traveled some, but then again it seems like I have been around for years And in my life I’ve noticed sometimes everything is not as it appears Well I know that you and I are getting tired trying to keep up with our dues Cause we just can’t seem to get out of the red into the black without the blues Take a number off the wall Leave it burning in the hall Take a break but don’t go broke Take a number, please "What is this world coming to?" A man shouts out while spinning through the bar "I’d help you with a tip," he says "but right now, I can’t even find the jar! So I just think I’ll step outside and see if I can get myself some air." But he comes back in a moment and he mutters. No-one really seems to care. Take another off the wall Pass it ‘round before you fall "Take another" someone spoke Take a number, please Well, no-one ever really likes to listen to the truth, or so I’m told So I’ll just say you’ll fall in love, get rich, and find your peace before you’re old Now don’t misunderstand me, I don’t mean to be so bitter in this song Oh, but have a few days like the day I’ve had today You know, you might want to sing along Take a number off the wall Hang it up before you call Take a break or go for broke Take a number, please
