Story behind the song
A Jars of Clay interview on http://www.myspace.com/jarsofclay motivated me to write this song. Dan Haseltine was talking about how we are often force-fed this one-sided personality of Christianity, and how that is so "absurd". We have to be honest with ourselves and say, is this what my heart really says? This song is my way of saying, I'm not genuine. I never will be completely. But I ask the question- is it possible, if all God broke loose in me?
Lyrics
Deep beneath the skin, what am I? Merely flesh and bone, of a stillborn blood And all my empty veins thirst for real, Genuine blood CHORUS: If the river flowed strong And the song ran free And the wells broke open, Would You love me...would You love me Of love, a fount no less, sees my plight The storm will swallow heroes, the night will steal the light The ship is mine to lose, the story mine to tell Of death and love and these CHORUS Could I be genuine CHORUS
