Story behind the song
I am usually a gospel song writer but have listened recently to some fabulous real country bands and was intrigued by the very talented musicians and writers.
Lyrics
We met in the city when I hailed your taxi down. You had your poodle on a leash, your shopping bags fell to the ground. When I offered you some help and you flashed your city smile. My country heart fell in love, and it fell a country mile. Many nights in your arms, how I loved this city life. But there's more to life than lovin' if you want to be my wife. You said we'd marry soon and you'll refine my country ways. And your daddys' fortune will be yours on our wedding day. CHO. But I was born country. Don't ask me to make amends. This suit and tie ain't me girl, with your high society friends. I have dreams of a family, with a faithful, loving wife. But I can see your hearts desire, is this fancy city life. Now that we're married and I call you out for lunch, you say you can't. You have to look at a PICASSO and then a REMBRANDHT. So tonight I'm gonna' fly back to my country roots. You won't even miss me, and your friends won't know the truth. CHO. That I was born country. It's in my blood to stay. Like a leopard with its spots dear. I'll always be this way. All I wanted was your love dear, but I don't fit your mold. I can't take this city livin' and I can't spend your daddys gold. 'Cause I was born country, and there's country in my soul.
