An updated version about a song about the escalating price of war.
A solo punk band with songs ranging from politics to social issues to evolutionary biology.
Lacking any real musical talent, I decided to use Punk-o-Matic to create some generic punk backgrounds to the various songs I had written. Recorded at low quality through a computer microphone, the songs are not musical masterpieces but the lyrics are still strong. Give it a listen, you might enjoy it.
Lyrics
The same depressing headlines scream everyday,
But words and pictures aren’t enough to convey,
And television doesn’t capture the sensation,
Of the brutal reality of the hellish situation,
So while the foreign war snowballs without brakes,
The sleeping giant’s people do not wake,
Can’t see a world they’re not accustomed to,
A world where the soldier is him and me and you,
Conscription, is it so abstract?
Conscription, `cuz when you turn your back,
Conscription, we’re part of the attack,
Conscription, don’t send me to Iraq!
I don’t wanna go
I don’t wanna go
I don’t wanna go-o-o-o-oh!
When the SS Agent comes knocking at your door,
Scrounging up another body for their war,
All protests unilaterally ignored,
Oh, why had you not resisted before?
Disobedience behind bars is no life
You break down, join the reluctant fight
The virus severs like a rusty knife
Your old self a half, a third, a tithe
And suddenly you’ve transformed
Into this zombie of the norm
A seed of hatred borne
A vile, disgusting turn
And when all is said and done
My friend, what have you become?
Since when do you wield a gun?
Since when have you killed someone?
Conscription, is it so abstract?
Conscription, `cuz when you turn your back,
Conscription, we’re part of the attack,
Conscription, don’t send me to Iraq!
