Thursday, March 7th, 1974 was an important day, a memorable day. It was the day Philip made his first foray into journalism, and it was the day Benjamin found God. Two events which were to have far-reaching consequences

I recently discovered the strength my parents demonstrated during the difficult times that haunted my childhood. They shielded my siblings and me from a lot of the hardships they experienced, which allowed us to grow up to be happy, secure adults. As a parent now myself, I appreciate how difficult their task was. This song came to me when I was thinking about how I can live up to their example while raising my son. I wrote it for my son, but I now feel compelled to tell everyone about my parents' strengths. It is an absolute thrill having these lyrics published in a book that will reach an international audience. I believe that the theme of my song is universal, and I hope that it will inspire others all over the world to feel a similar gratitude toward anyone special in their lives.

Story behind the song
It was also the day on which Benjamin's worst nightmare seemed about to come true. For many days now, Philip had been hard at work on an article which he hoped to see published in the school newspaper. The Bill Board appeared once a week, on Thursday mornings, and he was one of its most avid readers. The title betrayed its humble origins as a loose collection of typewritten essays and notices which used to be posted on a bulletin board in one of the upper corridors; but this had proved an inconvenient format, in most respects, and the previous year an enterprising young English master called Mr. Serkis had overseen its transition into print. The paper now extended to eight stapled sheets of A4, put together on Tuesdays by a cartel of sixth-formers in the glamorous secrecy of an office tucked away in the rafters above The Carlton Club. It was rare, very rare, for someone as young as Philip to have anything accepted by this uncompromising crew; but today, somehow, he had managed it.
Lyrics
Cigarette. Ah, sweet tobacco. Because of you America was founded. Because of you great minds like Tomas Edison’s realised their full potential. Now you are mercilessly vilified. America would best be served to reverse every satanic politically correct position and treat those that benefit from those lies like how the humble cigarette smoker is treated. What great piece of art or invention over the last two hundred years was not created by a cigarette smoker? And the chain smokers in Spain, Greece and myriad other countries far outlive Americans. Why? Because in those countries people consume pure magic foods such as undistilled olive oil, vinegar, red wine, whole grains etc., and do not subject themselves to the type of stress that Americans do. Is it any accident, that air rage incidents have skyrocketed in direct proportion to the suppression of smokers on airplanes? Where is the freedom? Why can’t a person who owns a bar or a restaurant not allow smoking if he wishes? Non-smokers have the freedom to go there or not to go there. This attack on peoples’ freedoms is unconscionable. Could you believe that smokers are forced to be on planes with people who have the distinct possibility of being terrorists, but are forbidden from smoking because of claims that they are endangering the lives of others? Truly there are no bounds to the stupidity of non-smokers.
