Story behind the song
I was sitting on the beach at Lido de Jesolo drinking the local wine when visions of mermaids appeared on the beach. Strong stuff that Italian vino!

MOONLIT NIGHT Verse 1 The sun shone hot all through the day Blazing down upon my shaven head I drank the beer and vino too Then fell asleep upon my sandy bed And as I slumbered The night had fallen But I could see as plain as day Chorus It was a moonlit night I was sitting by the shore When I saw her moving towards me Could it be my eyes deceived me? And then as she came near I stood up and ran to the sea And as the waves lapped around me Suddenly she had disappeared. Verse 2 I searched around, looked everywhere Could it have been a vision in my mind ? I gave up in despair It was as though I had gone blind Then I saw her Just like a mermaid She was swimming back to me! Chorus Bridge And as the sea swirled all around me It closed in over my head Then suddenly I saw my vision As she came near I lost my fear Coda It was a moonlit night I was lying on the shore How did I get there? I don’t remember Could it be my mind deceived me?
