I love him (for the memories)

I asked her why she stuck by him all these hard years
Refilled her wine glass as she sighed, and blinked back tears..
“Often asked myself the same,” she thought out loud
“He ain’t always been the man, that he is now…
“So I love him for the memories, I love him, for being there
For taking chances long forgotten, when my world was dark and bare
I love him for the children, to whom, we both gave life
I guess I love him like a mother would, if no more like a wife
“He took me on when I was young, with three small boys
Their father in an early grave, our lives turmoil
Things were different way back then, he had no need
But he gave to us a home, plus love, and hope, and dreams
“So I love him for the memories, I love him, for being there
For taking chances long forgotten, when my world was dark and bare
I love him for the children, to whom, we both gave life
I guess I love him like a mother would, if no more like a wife
“He ain’t always been a drinker, he was charming in his day
Guess he used to be my hero, in a quiet kind of way
He loved, big enough for both of us
Though it’s hard to understand
I guess I’ll love him till forever, cause after all
He’s still my man
“So I love him for the memories, I love him, for being there
For taking chances long forgotten, when my world was dark and bare
I love him for the children, to whom, we both gave life
I guess I love him like a mother would, if no more like a wife
“I love him like a mother would, if no more like a wife…..”
