Story behind the song
Flaws and pitfalls of ourselves and how they make us stronger, the song foreshadowed a lot that happened just months ago. The song really just came together. We started writing with idea in mind of torment and darkness, which evolved into the torment and darkness of the mind. Also, decided to have the song build up like a pyramid so it goes 16barsX2, then 8X2, 4X2, and finally 2X2
Lyrics
(Tone Dogg) This is life/ it don't stop 'til the casket drop/ Shit is not right/ everybody's got plans and plots/ late at night/ hoodrats is smokin' glass and rocks/ got a lite?/ even I get high like an astronaut/ And done shit that could get you stabbed and shot/ But I'm a man, I'm a deal with aftershock/ Enemies, don't give a fuck if they're still mad or not/ I fight flame with flame that's why hell is hot/ A dark voice begs me and drives me/ says it's a smart choice to be deadly and sheisty/ Locced and arrogant; always addressing my psyche/ a victim of what's inside me; torment of the grimey/ It's the evil in hearts of men that sparks fear/ It starts here! Like heard that starts tears/ Like drops of rain everything is quite clear/ I'm the cause of pain, I can't wake up from this nightmare/ (Cal-S-) Ignorance is bliss, still I insist/ On learning more while learning in the process/ that complete satisfaction does not exist/ See, you eat= you shit, you drink= you piss/ and what do you get to show for it (hunger)/ Is it all worth it? (Sometimes I wonder)/ Wander, somber and ponder the ends/ Survival seems futile defying common sense/ but I continue, though be it mechanically/ TV raised me, my own parents ain't understanding me/ maybe that's why Mother nature abandon me.../ Can it be that I'm the cause of the calamity?/ We've all looted and polluted the Earth's health/ Diluted [our] cultures, muted human cries for help/ And all in the pursuit of material wealth/ I look on the world with shame, but first I look on self/ (Tone Dogg) These bad dreams awake me/ There's no escaping/ It's my fault they hate me/ it's driving me crazy/ And I'm angry 'cause I think everyone wants to fuck my lady/ Maybe it's because used to be the one to do the same thing/ The hand that rocks the craddle done went and turned the tables/ I was the type to gank fools, dogg fools, shank fools/ Now it's a war all my demons and my angels/ I can't take it no more, it's just so painful/ (Cal-S-) Self is a volatile substance/ The flows of volcanic eruptions couldn't match its consumption/ Any opposition shouldn't push my buttons/ Or get caught in the violence of my self destruction/ That's why those I love get pushed away/ Or pulled a mist into the disarray/ I can't say that things are about to change/ Because self is unstable and subject act strange/ (Tone Dogg) I try to stay right, but I'm unrestrained/ As I deal with repercussions my actions contain/ I make my own bed and I do it willingly/ It feels so hard to breath mentally and physically/ (Cal-S-) It's a tangled web I weave skillfully/ You could point fingers, but I enter a guilty plea/ the accountiblity falls on me alone/ The burden of self when self is known/ (Tone Dogg) Self is shown as I glance at the river/ I see my face when I "Stand and Deliver"/ (Cal-S) But I don't quiver, because it all becomes much clearer/ When I recongnize that I am the Man in the Mirror
