This is an experiment in creativity and self-expression. A means to alternately feed my ego and insecurity.
Story behind the song
One of the most beautiful things i've ever seen was a runway at night as we landed at a Memphis airport - a lay-over on a trip to Atlanta. The runway was such a brilliant blue and the night was peaceful and calm.
This song isn't about that, but imagery from that night and other such trips are borrowed.
Lyrics
Ascending into the air
Without wings, without prayers
Staring down at the scrolling ground
A cross-stich pattern of farms & towns
See the little people, and their little lives
It's funny how the distance brings it all in sight
[CHORUS]
I have nothing to do today
But sit right here and think
Is it this or the change in atmosphere
That has me near the brink?
Now above the clouds, Pillow of cotton candy
Wind-blown water, sun-gold
My headphones on, drowning the rumble
In a mist of sound
I look to the exit on my left
Pointed out by some smiling sprite
I'd like to leap and dash through
To lay among the clouds in shimmering light
[CHORUS]
The sky is now an ashen gray
Somewhere in GA between night & day
The tarmac's lined in a bright blue
A Morse code signal of welcome or doom?
And i wonder, why i'm even here
Without any wings, without a prayer
