Story behind the song
a local house nearby growing up as a kid. very spooky looking old uninhabited victorian 2 story .... known as: "The Murder House"
Lyrics
house of pain (3/28/98)
it was and old house, built by great grand dad
a master planner, the best they had
a fire place, stood six feet tall
four story, rooms, i couldn't count them all
it had been empty, for quite some time
now that father died it has become mine
i remember the days i would play in the yard
i'd climb the trees, i'd explore the barn
the house was magic, it brought life to the young
mama always said that i shouldn't come
i can remember her words like they were yesterday
fifteen years is a long time to stay away
she told me stories about the fateful nights
shivers up my back when she would dim the lights
how the women were cursed as the men stood by
her sudden death, no one seemed to know why
daddy always told me, don't you worry son
your life has been planned and a man you'll become
take care of the house, it will take care of you
something that the men had to stay and do
i'd been driving a while, it was a stormy night
the house was old and gray, it was a fearful sight
i opened the door, i shook off the rain
after so many years it still looked the same
there was a book on the desk, at page 104
at dads last entry, there was a key to a door
it was a diary, with instructions inside
for what had to be done to keep the house alive
starting from the front, reading by candlelight
from the very first day, to the very last night
how a pact was made with the devil himself
an exchange of blood, for a life of wealth
all the women had been sacrificed for their sons
not knowing their future, or what they'd become
for the life of the house their ghosts would remain
to watch over their young, to absorb the pain
i went up the stairs, to the top of the flight
put the key in the lock, pushed the door open wide
couldn't believe what i saw, i had to look twice
mama was standing there, i saw the tears in her eyes
from that time i knew just what i had to do
i said this to mother, "i do this for you"
i went down the stairs just as fast as i could
i started a fire from the bundle of wood
ran out of the house and as i looked back
the rain was just ending to let the fire attack
i looked up the the top, to the highest window
i saw mama smiling, the room was aglow
and that's the end, the rain will wash away
all that remains of the house of pain
the curse was broken, the spell was undone
my life's not over, it has just begun
