Mahala's Song - rough sketch
A song I wrote for my daughter Mahala's dedication.
Beanfield Castle - what a crop of acoustic and more!
I'm actually my own band :) I sequence music to accompany myself, usually with me playing an acoustic instrument and singing for the final mix.
Story behind the song
This is the song I wrote for my daughter Mahala's dedication. I was rocking her to sleep one day for her nap, after having just received a gift for her from my aunt in Texas. Aunt Ruth had taken some of the tatting (hand-made lace) that my Grandma had made for her for her wedding gift, and put it on a little pillow for Mahala, as well as a few other items she had made. I was thinking to myself that this little baby had no idea how much she was loved, and the analogy to my not knowing how much God loves me either, and thus the song was born. This is another rough sketch that I'm using to work up a better version. I'm playing my Taylor 812, and my Soodlum D whistle. However, one thing I'd like to do is to have the whistle follow the melody line a bit better, so I'll re-do that part with my Susato A whistle, and play it in key of D.
Lyrics
Bright shining blue eyes are all I can see
Of that bright, beaming face peek-a-booing with me.
You cuddle and coo, and you hold on tight,
You giggle and sigh and we snuggle at night.
But you’ll never know, you can never know.
Just how much we love you, how high and how wide and deep.
You soak up all you can and then you smilingly drift asleep.
You’ve taught me so much of our Father above,
Just like you I can never fathom His love.
I sing and I pray and I hold on tight,
I rest in His arms midst the storms and the night.
But I’ll never know, I can never know.
Just how much He loves me, how high and how deep and wide.
I soak up all I can but can’t plumb the deep love of The Crucified.
Our Father delights in all He has done
And we bring Him great joy when we follow His Son.
So Mahala, as you grow and stretch and learn,
We want to help you perceive and discern,
So that you can know, you can come to know
Your glorious Father in heaven, His mercy and grace and love,
That He pours out on us so abundantly, flowing freely from Him above.
For He wants you to know, so very much wants you to know Him.
