Story behind the song
I recently visited the Playground of the Baby Giants and had to share my impressions!
Lyrics
I'm in the playground of the baby giants, where baby giants built a giant town With giant streets and giant paper houses, with giant cars and buses zoomin all around They built the place at double scale 'round giant automobiles That people have to use, cuz everything's so far afield But everything's so far afield, cuz the place was built at double scale Around the automobiles, that people use to go where they gotta get You know you only gotta drive, cuz everything's spread far and wide But everything's spread far and wide, cuz it's been built, so you can drive So you can park, on every block, but you could walk, just for a lark If there weren't so many lots, that spread the blocks, so far apart I'm in the playground of the baby giants, where baby giants built a giant town With giant streets and giant paper houses, with giant cars and buses zoomin all around All the houses and all the buildings are like giant cardboard boxes With a couple of holes, cut out for windows and doors With garish colors, just splattered on, like frosting on a giant cake And abandoned and left to bake in the sun when the baby giants got bored Inside the homes, inside the stores, inside the shops, inside the malls The baby giants left giant fridges, giant TVs, and giant stoves And giant plates, with mounds of food, that I could feed on for many moons Pieces of sushi, as big as steaks, buckets of soda, as deep as lakes They lined the streets, as wide as runways, with giant palmtrees as tall as cranes And giant billboards, on giant poles, that you can see from miles away With giant ads, for giant movies, with giant stars, with giant lips And giant teeth, as high as cliffs, and giant tits the size of blimps How can I feel so alone, in such a monumental urban spread This place is lifeless, this place is morbid, this place just fills me with dread Where did all the baby giants go why have they fled Is this the wake of the end of another world that left all the baby giants dead
