late 90's 'alt rock' with a bit of a tongue-in-cheek melancholy.
tattered hat was a project that started somewhat whimsically and kinda spur-of-the-moment. I have another project () that I was trying to start but didn't quite go where I wanted with this band. I'm not complaining, mind you. I had a lot of fun and some cool tunes came out of it.

Story behind the song
there are a number of threads I pulled together for this song. for starters Chris kept picking on me for never rhyming so I undertook the challenge of making EVERYTHING rhyme. I was also trying to examine the probability of dating someone HIV+ and how I would feel in that sort of situation. How would I react? How would my anxieties handle it? Could I do it? Or would I chicken out? I also wanted something ethereal and atmospheric. In general I credit every one on this since everyone added significant parts even though I came up with the basic structure/chords/melody.
