Story behind the song
This is a song about a man that dips out on(abandons) is wife and child. He just couldn't take her "bickering" any longer. Now he's having a "good time" in New Orleans. Not exactly a happy tale, but I like it. Standard Rockabilly number with bass and guitar. Enjoy!
Lyrics
Mother (j.loeri) Mother I sure hope you got that Letter I left underneath your chins If you did bother To get up today at all I surely hope you understand That I could never stand your bickering Until we meet again I’m having a good time Alimony matrimony Put them both on to a pony Ride them to the bank And that’s ‘bout what you’ll get from me You can sweat and swear Until you loose all of your hair You don’t really think I care I’m having a good time (Bridge) Tell junior that his daddy got shot Down on Benning Road Or tell him that you turned me From a man into a toad Or tell him I’m a drunken rogue Some where in New Orleans Trying hard to mend his broken dreams Someday a bitter little man With a pistol in his steady hand Will creep up from behind And answer all your hopes and prayers They say that I’m a wicked lout That the world could really do without Until we meet again I’m having a good time Guitar break Return to bridge Return to first verse
