Story behind the song
Yep, Niki who I unfortunately get to see very little of today was an old college friend of mine that invited me to Percy Quinn Park for a long weekend with her family. Niki was always free spirited and I can credit her for being the one who helped me open my eyes to traveling the world and living life outside my comfort zone. On that special night and after a few beers on a pier swatting mosquitoes we wrote this song together with years of wisdom way beyond our years at the time...now if we could only apply this song to our lives and slow down just a bit from our careers etc...and cherish our family and friends.
I thank Niki for truly being an inspiration...we all need friends like Niki who help spark our lives and challenge us to to get out our comfort zone...
Need to share one more story about Niki...she is also the one who challenged me to play my guitar in public and sing for the first time at the Flora Bama...the night I played I didn't even have a drink for the night before Niki and our friends Jason, John and a few others had a few too many, too many such we were kicked out of the Purple Parrot in Gulf Shores, Alabama and too many such the next night, the night I played, I was in no mood to even think of having a drink. Long story short I finally got to play the fastest version of "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" to a crowd of drunks at 2am had ever heard...sober and nervous yet Niki pushed me to do it. Niki's free spirit certainly is contagious...
