Why I've Got To Sing
Comment Share
I wrote this one a hundred years ago, about a girl whose name I don't even remember. Ironic, don't you think?

Hi. My name is Hartley Singer. I've been playing guitar for as long as I can remember. Graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, spent a few years doing the travelling band road warrier thing, played for Suzanne Somers, Bob Hope, Frankie Avalon, and lots of other folks. These days I'm involved with a jazz album project, but this site will feature the original "acoustic" stuff I've written over the years.

Story behind the song
Where did this song come from? Why do I sing? Why do I play guitar? It's just my way of expressing things that I would just get tongue-tied if I tried to say in ordinary conversation.
Lyrics
Every time that I see you smile You turn me on You give me strength with your style That's my girl, that's my everything I can't say enough That's why I've got to sing In a crowd, walking hand in hand You don't mind showing the world I'm your man We go out dancing And Lord, you shake that thing! I can't say enough That's why I've got to sing People ask me If I'm scared you will leave Well, I sure don't know what to say But I'm trying to give you all of my love And I'm hoping you will stay. You sure are thoughtful You sure are kind You sure have found the key to me Every time I'm not crazy and I'm not blind I know you're the good thing I was hoping I would find.
