Lyrics
'The Thing I Haven't Got' Pieces of you, Lyin' around in my heart, Treasure in the wreckage, Some lucky stone I lost, The face I won't forget, The picture in the paper, The cloud that's always blue, The thing I haven't got. And you smile and say, You have a life, You haven't lived, And I take the hurt, And wrap it up, As some small gift, We walk away, To burn a bridge. Like fallin' off a train, Drownin' in a river, The sun that fades to grey, The things I couldn't say, A lover and a stranger, The sweetness and the bitter, The one I cannot blame, A penny for the pain. © Maria Daines/Paul Killington

song of the soul
Apr 29, 2008
maria - i just heard this song after checking in with carol douglas, thanking her for putting my song 'who's the fool' on her station. i saw your song there on the station, of course pressing play, and wow, another great blues song - great lyrics, vox, nice layers of sounds, bass and acoustic guitar, electric lead rocks, really rocks. al in all a great song. your vox with the end tail of the leads in there right on time...can't say enough. peace---jd
