Do You Ever Get Discouraged?
A song that emphasizes that even if one's heart doesn't seem naturally attuned to God, that it can become that way.
Solo singersongwriter Christian easy listening or folk music
I am a singer/songwriter in English and Spanish. I write mostly hymns in a fairly conservative style, but with enough melody and rhythm to hopefully be interesting.
Story behind the song
A friend of mine had stopped coming to church, possibly because of discouragement over how to be a Christian.
Lyrics
Do you ever get discouraged
With the garden of your soul?
Then have faith now and take courage,
For the Lord can make you whole.
Are there thistles in your garden?
Have the rows filled up with weeds?
He can give you grace and pardon
And provide for all your needs.
Chorus:
He can take away the briars out of your heart.
He can clear away the boulders and bring a brand new start.
He can cultivate the soil and really make you grow.
He can surely make you holy and He can make it show.
Is your life so awfully busy
That you don't find time to pray?
Then, at last you take a minute,
But, you don't know what to say.
Jesus calls us to commitment
And He'll help us with our prayers.
I will praise Him for His blessings,
And He'll come to meet me there.
(Chorus)
Are there treasures up in Heaven
That you've given to the Lord?
Have you helped to feed the hungry
And to spread abroad His Word?
Even if you have no money,
If you give Him all your love,
Give Him faithful, grateful service,
You'll find treasures up above.
(Chorus)
If you don't know how to witness,
What to say or how to plan,
If so much just seems beyond you,
At least do now what you can.
Lay your talents on the altar,
Put your love there every day.
Though your timid steps may falter,
He can lead you all the way.
(Chorus)
Oh, they say you must be ready
When He comes to take us home.
Such a thing you cannot manage
If you try it on your own.
He can take His holy nature,
Put around you and within.
He can cleanse you with forgiveness.
He can take away your sin.
(Chorus)
