Story behind the song

i wrote the first two verses to this for an old band pre 9/11 because i thought the general malaise of our society was crap.  when i took them out again i felt i needed to add a third verse in light of recent garbage in our world, perpetuated by our fearless leader.

another hostage situation in the middle east
the headlines read, will there ever be peace
another murder suicide of a lonely child
the reporters fail to see the truth
another faceless victim is dying
with you watching from your couch
     how long can this go on for
     our race, the human race, 
     is dying at its own hands
black churches are burning far in the south
fueled by hate thats centuries old
geoncide in some third world country
and you say, how does this affect me now
riots on the streets of seattle and quebec
'cause world leaders just want to exploit us
another child's will is gonna break again
'cause it seems he's got nowhere to turn this time

prisoners raped and tortured in Iraq
while bombs fall on innocent heads
car bombs explode and the number dead keeps rising
