Bump combines elements of funk, jazz, Motown and prog with the organic feel of straight up Rock and Roll and the hooks and harmonies of Modern Pop. Bump embodi
Growing up in the outskirts of the Motor City, it has become Bump's mission to resurrect the sounds that made Detroit a musical Mecca. After the recent years of Detroit's association with garage rock, hip-hop and rap rock, Bump is stepping up to fuse all the famous sounds the city was once known for. Yorg Kerasiotis combines the vocal hooks and harmonies of the Funk Brother's with the stage presence of James Brown, while Chris Sterr echoes the guitar tones of Mick Taylor and classic Detroit rock. Holding it all together are Eric Novak, who drops tasty bass-lines reminiscent of James Jamerson, and Clint Carpenter on drums laying down the groove like the great Stewart Copeland. Bump has taken all of their Motown roots and has managed to create an unusual and unique sound to call their own. From late 2001 to mid 2004, Bump was a straight up weekend rock band due to the dedication of band members attending Michigan State University. Musical inspiration led the band mates to continue performing and dedicating their time and enthusiasm to their music. For three years, Bump has played over 350 shows in nine states, 75 venues, and a number of 500+ capacity shows in Detroit. Highlights include playing live on the nationally syndicated Mitch Albom Show, being nominated for a Detroit Music Award, and selling out Detroit's Majestic Theatre. They have shared the stage with national acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Umphrey's McGee, Mofro, RAQ, Fareed Haque and Ekoostik Hookah. This year, Bump returned to its original 4-piece lineup and has become a professional touring act. During summer 2004, Bump enjoyed a successful Colorado tour and shows and festivals throughout the Midwest. The guys then jumped headfirst into the studio. They recorded their first studio release, Heart of Cadillac Square, with special guest keyboardist and 17-time Detroit Music Award Nominee Chris Codish. This five song EP, recorded on analog tape at EQS Studios, includes Bump's ode to Detroit "Motorland" and the epic ballad turned trance jam, "Dusk." On top of the audio tracks, the EP Heart of Cadillac Square includes ten minutes of behind the scenes documentary footage filmed by Fulvew Productions. Bump's first studio release illustrates the potential they have to be successful recording artists in addition to passionate live performers. As Bump continues to blossom, their infectious presence draws fans and critics alike agreeing that this band is one of the most exciting live acts on the scene. Detroit rock idols like Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, and Bootsy Collins are great inspirations to this new generation of hard working excited musicians. Listening to Bump and The Heart of the Cadillac Square reminds rock fans of the many great sounds and musical traditions that continue to make Detroit so special and unique.
