Story behind the song
I had an idea for a new project, and the title "Dreams Can Take You Everywhere" was the basically the only idea I had. I started with the chorus, and the verses just came off the back of that. They'll be expounded further with forthcoming tracks.
Lyrics
Nobody's noticed me, I'm not the type to cause a big scene Staying in my own world, that I saw in the dreams That I'd have when I walked through the fields on Hope mountain The view of wind blowin' through long grass was astounding I'd spend these times letting my thoughts drift away Over that grass, over the edge of the cliffs, slip away Was always told that dreaming gets you nowhere I don't care, I live in a dream, and you won't go there A shrill in the screams, and my heart's in my mouth In a line, in a crowd and my mind starts to shout I'm just finding it out for myself what they told me That dreams don't pay the bills, I'm living lonely And coldly, no one would know about my poems But they didn't cost a thing and they found me a home I was the only one who believed I had talent That I buried in a field, so nobody else could have it, (except a rabbit) Dreams can take you everywhere... If not tomorrow or today then I'll still follow Paths that the Lord's laid (it's His way so) Dreams can take you everywhere... I know they told me that they couldn't but I wouldn't listen Running down the hallway (and out the door) Don't tell me not to dream, the only way to escape From my life, whatever's right, these places I stay Are laying me to waste, my soul's suffocating While time's rushing by, life has no trouble waiting They won't open the gates, they won't let me proceed What is it that you want, or expect me to be? In the house where the children of Passion and Patience Reside, since their dreams have died, have been waiting Inside, but I'm trying to escape, grapple and grasp Past those who are lying in wait, Passion laughs While Patience just sits agitated amidst All the violence, with Passion dying, shaking his fist Dreams can take you everywhere... If not tomorrow or today then I'll still follow Paths that the Lord's laid (it's His way so) Dreams can take you everywhere... I know they told me that they couldn't but I wouldn't listen Running down the hallway (and out the door) Sometimes it seems, like I'm the only one who dreams My existence's resists imminent reality But I'll fight for this plight, won't let go of the dream Til at last it succumbs like the snow on the stream Grounded in delusion of a winter's breath Is it a dream or preluded down to a hidden depth? I'm asleep, I'm awake, with a reason to place All my hopes on the dreams that I see in this state But I'm told not to follow my dreams, and I'm told Not to swallow these hopes as I read, cos I'm sold On the life and the times of the past great figures Now the dark age's rid us with the last pages hidden Dreams can take you everywhere... If not tomorrow or today then I'll still follow Paths that the Lord's laid (it's His way so) Dreams can take you everywhere... I know they told me that they couldn't but I wouldn't listen Running down the hallway (and out the door) Drawing in the landscape to view the bigger picture Sorry to let you down after I said I was coming with ya The truth of the matter is I'm couped in your arms And you never could say that you knew me, it's hard-er Than previously thought To follow in your dreams, and all the things I believed in I sought My preaching's ignored, my view's dismissed As the whims of a dreamer, secluded in this though It's not my fault, a momentary loss In the depths of the fog, which is less than the cost That we've lost, inspiration gets it's crown from the few Adulation is found with, I'm grounded, are you? Dreams can take you everywhere... If not tomorrow or today then I'll still follow Paths that the Lord's laid (it's His way so) Dreams can take you everywhere... I know they told me that they couldn't but I wouldn't listen Running down the hallway (and out the door)
