In 1996, a friend of mine was killed in a motorcycle accident on a bright Sunday afternoon, slamming into a passenger van whom cut him off at the town's east-end on-ramp. This is my song to him.

Story behind the song
I've lived a 10 year period of my life in a small town in Ontario called Rockland. In that period, I made an endearing group of friends with whom I experienced life on the positive and negative sides of the line. In 1996, one of these friends was killed in a motorcycle accident on a bright Sunday afternoon, slamming into a passenger van whom cut him off at the east-end on-ramp of Rockland, leaving behind his longtime girlfriend. Two weeks later, a memorial was held on July 22nd, which would have been his birthday, at their 1 acre farmhouse in Curran Ontario, where approximately 100 of Allan's and Doe's friends and family members attended to pay their respects. I wrote this song as a tribute to Allan to Dominique, that aired that night for the first time through an impressive sound system set up outside near a raging bondfire. His ashes were scattered on their property immediately after the playing of the song. This was one of the most memorable evenings of my life. Song was released July 6th 1996.
Lyrics
Hitching dreams upon your star Sometimes forget through all your days Who you are; and what you are We take for granted what we've learned And when we fly it all gets burnt away Or does it stay? Just when you thought you were free from pain Til the dying of your ways Unexpected time to say goodbye Left with the memory of a friend So why do you cry; do you not believe Dry off your tears he's in a better place If today he were here, he'd scave off your fears You'll be by his side again, in a better place (solo) DIALOG: I know Al was with us always And I know these are the words he'd say Don't grieve for me; for now I'm free I'm following the path god laid for me I took his hands when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day To love, laugh, work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way I found out peace at the close of day If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss As yes these things I too will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow My life's been full; I've savoured much Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don't lenghten it now with undue grief Lift up your heart and share with me God wanted me now; he set me free (Allan rides to the heavens) (solo) So why do you cry; do you not believe Dry off your tears he's in a better place If today he were here, he'd scave off your fears You'll be by his side again, in a better place ------------------ Dedicated to the memory of Allan Isabel
