Combining hi-powered hooks with full-throttle rock aggression, Atlanta’s The Paper Champions write songs brimming with infectious energy and sweltering emotion. Intricate, interlocking guitars, fluid bass, steadfast drumming, and earnest vocals stir up a simmering brew of seething post-hardcore and jangly melodic rock that rises and falls with tightly wound tension. However, TPC is not all fire and brimstone; there are also moments of tranquility and quiet introspection when the band trades its rousing sonic upheaval for stirring poetic reverie. Formed in the summer of 2002, it wasn’t long before the good word spread, and Charlotte, NC indie label Deep Elm Records chose TPC’s track “Ask Emma” to be included on their esteemed Emo Diaries #9: Sad Songs Remind Me compilation. This was followed by a critically acclaimed three song EP, gaining The Paper Champions more positive exposure. To capitalize on the success of their self-released EP, The Paper Champions formed an alliance with new Atlanta label Reason Y Records to record and release their first full-length effort. In March 2004, the band entered Fireball Sound Studio in Kennesaw, Georgia under the engineering expertise of Marc McClusky. Having worked on projects for such prominent labels as Interscope Records, Vagrant Records, Tooth & Nail Records, and Universal Records, McClusky gracefully captured the dynamic and reflective sound of The Paper Champions on a powerful and emotive eleven song LP. Challenging, explosive and nervy, Weekend of Compromise is an album of edgy, impassioned songs strung together by driving angular riffs, propulsive rhythms, and rich harmonies that soar and weave. The result is a wonderful blend of atmospheric melody and urgent intensity that continually shifts direction and mood without losing any of its combustive energy.

Lyrics
Sailors and broken wives Brave ones and patient eyes Blame it on who and why Oceans of sacrifice Naked eyes and panicked looks to you There’s patience in a deeper blue Stake your claim; your color’s overdue Aimless, I envy you Bleeding – he’s seeing things Listening – he’s saying things There’s a saying that I can’t recall There’s an old rhyme that trips beneath my tongue There’s an age-old wive’s tale, I remember the end There’s an only child looking grim again Ray’s alone again (x2) Sketching out ways to hurt, plans to burn, they never learn People to confide in – millions to make understand [him] In his eyes, you’ll realize That one is none In his throat, knotted close The reason why He never speaks, writes it all on scraps To burn someday Lights a fire, lights it all ablaze someday That day’s today
