A song about a strange and changing world
We're playing a mixture of rock-fusion-world-jazz
The samples are demos of the songs to provide an idea of the range of sound. Session players were used for this recording. There is no permanent lead singer right now, so the vocalist (me) is not a true vocalist.
Story behind the song
State of the Race is an account of current and past events, and how we, as people, have dealt with those situations.
Lyrics
Verse 1
The state of the race is a strange old situation, a look at this world watch it ol’ so surely falling apart. Hustle and rush in our cities mad with motion, people gobble each other, leave nothing where there once was a man
Verse 2
The newspaper reads another solider dead fighting the fight, a mother mourns wondering how oil can be worth her childs life. And times are hard when you’re in the desert choking on sand, busy searching for Osama and Saddam
Bridge 1
There was a nuclear race with the Russians (chorus: Oh no!)
Enough explosives to blow us to hell a thousand times and again
Trouble in South Africa, called Apartheid, Mandela taught them a black man is a man
Verse 3
We’ve got to turn it around, better make a new condition,
Stop all the fussing and fighting, let everybody live as they may,
Rich while you sleep and you dream about more money, you know you can’t take it with you, share it while you’re still in the race
Bridge 2
The crime and corruption
The young and the old hurt and hopeless sleeping out on streets
Dying from AIDS now (chorus: who will save us?)
The state of race, seems we’ll all - be - gone
Verse 4
You’ll wake up one morn, with a new day before you, thankful/anxious to heave the fresh air that you breath, strong and ready to fight for a brand new beginning, let’s get busy and make a new state/place where we live
