In 1960, her family moved to Staten Island, New York. At 8, she started piano lessons. At 11, her big brother, Pat, gave her his Harmony semi-electric guitar for a Christmas present. She taught herself from the latest Beatles music book. The first song she learned was I Wanna Hold Your Hand. In 1965, she and her best friend put together the first all female rock band on Staten Island called The Starliters. The rest is history. She is an original songwriter/guitarist/performer and producer who has been playing New York City clubs since 1980. In 1987, Jan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Story behind the song
I got hit with Multiple Sclerosis, BUT I'M STILL HERE -- Rockin till I drop! Ain't it something!
Lyrics
Ain't it something, I'm still here Kept up with the changes All these years Seasons come and Seasons go All my memories turned to snow And I can't tell one year from another Ain't it something A real cosmic joke The way I stopped from going up in smoke Reasons come and Resons go It only goes to show You can't tell one from another So I keep hanging on to my dream And I keep singing my songs for you I don't care if it's right or it's wrong it's the best damn thing that I do! Ain't it something! I keep pushing, pushing down my fears Going far beyond the pain and tears Seasons come and Seasons go All my memories turned to snow Ain't it something
