Let My Prayers be as Incense
I am the proud father of two adult children. I have been playing the guitar for various church bands for over 25 years. All of these songs are original and reflect a preference to Christian music with a country rhythm.
Story behind the song
Is it the account of one day in the life of a believer, or is it the summary of a lifetime spent serving Christ? Either way, it is a good practice to take a moment, every now and then, to reflect on the goodness of God. To revel in the wonder of His presence is a privilege reserved for His children – and as we reach out to Him in thankfulness, He blesses us with words of encouragement. That’s all it takes to warm any father’s heart – a simple, sincere thank-you from his children – and we have so much for which to thank Him.
Though the world has many illusions of happiness and fulfillment, once we have tasted of His goodness we know that there is no one else to whom we could turn to find such joy of living. Our spirits echo the sentiments of His first disciples – Lord, to whom would we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life!
Lyrics
LET MY PRAYERS BE AS INCENSE
As I come into Your presence at the closing of this day
And I shut the door on all this world’s strife
It’s so good to feel You near me, and to hear You softly say –
“Come, my child, I give to you this cup of life”.
Let my prayers be as incense and the lifting of my hands
Be to You as the evening sacrifice
May the words that I utter be acceptable to You
Just to spend this time with You is Paradise.
Thank-you Lord for being near me in the tempest of this day
When the waves of life washed o’er my weary soul
When, in fear, I cried “ Lord Jesus – don’t You care about my life?!”
I heard – “Peace, Be still!” You touched me – now I’m whole.
How I long to stay beside You as I walk this path of life,
For I know that You so freely died for me
And I gladly shun the pleasures that this world would offer now
So that I may share Your joy eternally.
