Story behind the song
A scene from a rustic bar up in the Rocky Mountains appeared to be a great setting for this lament. It's about an old cowboy reminiscing about his lost love Angelina he met in the same bar decades ago. The setting for this song is a real place in Woodland Park Colorado called 'Tres Hombres'.
Lyrics
Drinking alone in a mountain cantina A young painted lady gives me a glance I tip my glass to her as she rises She’s heading my way and she’s starting to dance The moon through the window, it lights up my table The language I use is as clear as the sky And as she draws near I continue to wonder Is she drawn by my gold or the look in my eye She dances and spins in time with the music Reminds me so much of my Angelina It’s been so long since I sat at this table With Tres Hombres, Dos Equis Y Una Paloma I tell her, mija, you look so familiar And with a smile I invite her to stay The touch of her hand is as soft as my memory And closing my eyes, she is not far away In a life long ago she worked this cantina She would dance for the silver coins they would throw Though I was so young, just a drunken vaquero I could see through my haze her face was aglow She danced and she sang in time with the music Enchanting me so was my Angelina For most of the night I sat at this table With Tres Hombres, Dos Equis Y Una Paloma
