Simple and poppy rumination on the loss of subtle freedoms today. It's really like you have to fight damn hard to just be taken seriously.

Inspiration can hit at the strangest times. Lately I've been inspired by some pretty offbeat memories, experiences, readings and ideas. My hope is that I can blend them with the words in my heart and stake my claim of originality. That being said, this is overflow parking. Here, have a seat.

Story behind the song
It was just one of those spur of the moment rants that I eventually sat down and heavily revised. It's a very poppy song and has a cliched backstory, but it's one of the more solid songs I've written. I remember being so excited about it when I wrote it that I called my stepsister in Atlanta (I was living in Canada at the time) and reading off the lyrics proudly.
Lyrics
I wake up And my radio’s still playing It’s the only thing I listen to I get up And again the world is saying I got to be somebody who Is presentable, pleasing and trainable A demographic that can spend I am only my possessions And I’d rather stay in bed I feel so disconnected An error in full view It’s almost like I’m wrong to Think my opinion matters too Drives me nuts That I’m expected to give in And let the world just pass me by I give a fuck And I’m not waiting to begin There’s no such thing as a free ride I’m standing up for my rights all the time Every second of every day I’m your freedom of expression Ignore me and I’ll go away I feel so disconnected An error in full view It’s almost like I’m wrong to Think my opinion matters too
