I am the proud father of two adult children. I have been playing the guitar for various church bands for over 25 years. All of these songs are original and reflect a preference to Christian music with a country rhythm.
Story behind the song
As a two-and-a-half year old infant she had been caught in a house fire that claimed the life of her mother. Most of her hair was singed and she had scars that covered 20 percent of her body. In his grief, her father left her in care of her maternal grandparents and moved on with his life. As her grandparents aged, she became a ward of the social welfare system where she was bounced around from foster home to foster home. Emotionally and physically abused as an adolescent and teenager - the subject of pity to most people, and the object of scorn to many, she possessed an indomitable spirit. Her resilience was astounding to most who knew her, and an inspiration to me – who had the privilege of sharing her life for twenty-five years. For all that she had endured, the theme of her life was Isaiah 43:2 - "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.
Lyrics
I stand here before you – alone in the crowd
And it seems no one hears though my heart cries out loud
I hear in my spirit a voice softly say
“Behold, I am with you each step of the way”
“Behold, I am with you – do not be afraid
I show you My love in each promise I’ve made
I’ll never forsake you – My words are all true
Behold, I am with you in all that you do.”
Lord, I’m here in the fire of heartache and trial
It was all I could do just to walk that last mile
But He says “I am with you in all that you do
When you walk through the fire it won’t kindle on you”
I’ve been watching the waters of circumstance roll
And, Lord, can’t You see how they threaten my soul
But He says “I am with you – where ever you go”
“When you pass through the waters, they will not overflow”
