Story behind the song
Another one of those pieces that just happened, totally unplanned when I was doing something else. When I was a young boy growing up in central Scotland, my friends and I would wander for miles and miles through the countryside, through fields, woods, abandoned brickworks etc. We used to find all manner of interesting things - well, interesting to 10 year old boys! But we never found a whimbrel. If we had, it would surely have been on a day that sounded like this.
